Youngsters and adults who fancy a moment of fame are getting the chance with a business expansion by music teacher Tina Phillips and her husband Simon.

Mosman Music, based in Little Whelnetham, is now offering ‘pop star parties’ where people can celebrate their special day in a recording studio and take away a CD memento of the occasion.

Tina has been teaching piano and keyboard for the past 15 years and husband Simon decided to join her in setting up pop star parties. He had previously been involved with St Edmundsbury Theatre Services so had a wealth of sound experience.

The parties are aimed at seven years and over. The star for the day can walk down a red carpet to a disco event before recording their chosen song with their friends. This would normally be something they had earlier selected and practised. While they and guests enjoy some party food Simon does the production work.

Tina, who teachers keyboard and piano up to grade 8, is also a peripatetic teacher at Westley and Horringer Court schools.

She said: “We’re always looking for something new and there doesn’t appear to be anything like this around here so we decided to set this up.”

The pair have staged a couple of pop star parties already after testing the very first on their seven-year-old daughter and have had favourable reviews back.

It’s a far cry from Simon’s former job as a butcher but has enabled him to enjoy his interest in music recording.
